Our Beliefs
About God
We believe in one God who is infinitely perfect and exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
-
Genesis 1:1, 26–27; 3:22 – God as Creator and the divine plurality.
-
Psalm 90:2 – God’s eternal nature.
-
Matthew 28:19 – The command to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
2 Corinthians 13:14 – The blessing of the triune God.
About Jesus
At Waypoint Church, we believe Jesus Christ is the true God and the true man, coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, He lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the perfect, substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross—the Just for the unjust. Through His shed blood, all who believe in Him are justified and made right with God.
He rose from the dead after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death, and ascended to Heaven, where He reigns at the right hand of the Father. One day, He will return to establish His kingdom of righteousness, peace, and everlasting reign.
-
Matthew 1:22–23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1–5 – His divine nature and incarnation
-
Hebrews 4:14–15 – His sinless life
-
1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Romans 1:3–4 – His death and resurrection
-
Acts 1:9–11 – His ascension and promised return
-
Colossians 2:9–10 – His deity and authority
-
1 Timothy 6:14–15 – His coming reign
About Holy Spirit
At Waypoint Church, we believe the Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit gives believers the power to live faithfully, understand spiritual truth, and follow God’s guidance.
He gives every Christian spiritual gifts when they place their faith in Jesus, and as followers of Christ, we seek to live under His direction daily.
-
Acts 1:8 – The Spirit gives power for witness
-
John 14:16–17; 16:7–13 – The Spirit as our Helper and Guide
-
Galatians 5:25 – Living by the Spirit
-
1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16 – The Spirit dwelling in believers
-
Ephesians 1:13 – Sealed with the Spirit at salvation
-
2 Corinthians 13:14 – The fellowship of the Spirit
-
1 Peter 1:2 – The Spirit’s sanctifying work
About the Gifts of the Spirit
We believe the Gifts of the Spirit are for believers and the church today. These gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to build up the body of Christ, strengthen the church, and equip believers to serve and minister effectively.
-
1 Corinthians 12:1–11 – Spiritual gifts distributed by the Spirit
-
Romans 12:3–8 – Using gifts to serve the body of Christ
-
Ephesians 4:7–16 – Equipping the church for unity and maturity
About the Bible
At Waypoint Church, we believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. Both the Old and New Testaments are divine revelation, with the original writings inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error.
Though written by human authors, the Bible was given under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit and stands as the ultimate source of truth for Christian faith and life. Because it is inspired by God, it is entirely trustworthy and true.
About Salvation
We believe that salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all people. Those who repent of their sins and put their faith in Him are born again by the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become children of God.
-
John 3:16 – God’s love and the gift of eternal life
-
Ephesians 2:8–9 – Salvation by grace through faith
-
Romans 10:9–10 – Confessing and believing in Jesus for salvation
-
2 Corinthians 5:17 – A new creation in Christ
About Humanity & Sin
We believe that people are made in the spiritual image of God, created to be like Him in character and to reflect His nature. Every person has tremendous potential for good and is created with inherent value and equality before God.
Yet, all of us are marred by sin—an attitude of disobedience toward God—that separates us from Him, brings brokenness into our lives, and leaves us in need of salvation. Human sin and guilt since the fall have rendered us subject to God’s wrath and condemnation, resulting in alienation from His life, suppression of His truth, and hostility toward His law.
Still, God’s love desires for all people to come to repentance and be reconciled to Him rather than condemned.
-
Genesis 1:27 – Created in God’s image
-
Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23 – Humanity’s universal sin
-
Isaiah 59:1–2 – Sin separates us from God
-
Psalm 139:13–16 – God’s care in creating each person
-
Colossians 2:13–15 – God’s forgiveness through Christ
About Baptism
We believe that baptism is symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Once we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, baptism is a public declaration of our new life in Him.
Baptism is also a step of obedience to God’s commands and follows the example of Jesus, who Himself was baptized to “fulfill all righteousness.”
-
Matthew 3:16–17; 28:18–20 – Jesus’ baptism and His command to baptize
-
Acts 2:41; 8:12 – Baptism of new believers
-
Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12 – Baptism as a picture of death, burial, and resurrection with Christ
Our Story
Waypoint Church was born when Gateway Christian Church and Faith Community Church—together with over 80 years of ministry—realized we could make a greater impact together. Born out of prayer and unity during COVID-19, we came together because we believe we are better together.
A waypoint is a reference point that shows where you are and where you’re going. Our prayer is that each of us would become waypoints—guiding others to Jesus by living and loving like Him.
Our mission is simple
